Forklift Operator Training
Forklift training certification is a requirement. According to OSHA, employers that have any mobile power-propelled truck used to carry, pull, push, lift, stack, or tie materials in a work environment by employees need to develop and implement a safety program based on the general principles of safe truck operations.
Trained Operators must know how to do the job properly and safely demonstrate by workplace evaluation. Employers must provide formal training (lecture, video) and practical demonstration. Employers must also certify that each employee (operator) is trained to safely operate a forklift or powered vehicle. Employers are also responsible for keeping track of all forklift training certifications and must offer refresher courses to their employees every 3 years.
Who Should Conduct Forklift Training?
All training and evaluation must be conducted by persons with the necessary knowledge, training, and experience to train powered industrial (forklift) truck operators and evaluate their competence. An example of a qualified trainer would be a person who, by possessing a recognized degree, certificate, or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training, and experience has demonstrated the ability to train and evaluate powered industrial truck operators.
